Bio
Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, L. Ac., M. S., M. M., is the internationally recognized author of the book, Constitutional Facial Acupuncture (Elsevier UK, 2014). She is an acclaimed teacher, an acupuncturist, an herbalist, Acutonics® and Zen Shiatsu practitioner, cranio-sacral therapist and a professional opera singer. Mary Elizabeth is acknowledged to be a leading international authority on facial acupuncture, and has created innovative treatment protocols that emphasize a constitutional approach to this modality, as well as some 22 educational seminars that present her unique philosophy and treatment protocols.
Elsevier UK published Mary Elizabeth’s definitive volume on facial acupuncture, Constitutional Facial Acupuncture, currently rated 5-stars on Amazon, in 2014. In March 2020, Mary Elizabeth and her life and teaching partner, MichelAngelo, collaborated on the ground-breaking book, Vibrational Acupuncture: “Integrating Tuning Forks with Needles” (Singing Dragon UK), which presented, for the first time, a fully-developed and integrated synergy of acupuncture needling with the vibrational Qi of Acutonics planetary tuning forks. The couple have presented seminars on the materials and treatment protocols from these books in a variety of international locations, and at acupuncture symposiums, both online and live.
Ms. Wakefield was featured as a presenter in the inaugural Subtle Energy Summit online in April 2023, where her topic was planetary gem elixirs, and with MichelAngelo in June as part of the 2nd Radiant Aging Summit. Their mutual topic was their innovative vibrational tuning fork facial, Facial Soundscapes. They presented on Vibrational Acupuncture in the inaugural Radiant Aging Summit in June 2022.
Mary Elizabeth taught a number of seminars in 2023, including live certification series offerings in Boulder, CO (SWAC Boulder) and Bloomfield, NJ (ESATM), as well as a series of small group mentorships at her home base in New York. In March 2022, she presented her certification series in Constitutional Facial Acupuncture Archetypes, drawn from her Somatic level of training, for FSOMA in Fort Lauderdale. A second live seminar occurred in Bloomfield, NJ, for Eastern School of Traditional Medicine (ESATM) in October. In April 2021, Mary Elizabeth and MichelAngelo launched their 4th International GOLD STANDARD FACIAL ACUPUNCTURE® Certification Program virtually via Zoom in April 2021, garnering attendees from a variety of international locations; the 2-year Program concluded in August of 2022.
She has 35+ years of clinical professional experience as a healing practitioner, and has personally trained close to 6,000 healthcare practitioners from 5 continents. She retains the designation of Educator of the Year, which was awarded to her by the former AAAOM at their symposium in Chicago in 2005.
Mary Elizabeth was invited to lend her expertise to the 1st International Cosmetic Acupuncture Symposium (ICAS) in Tokyo, JAPAN, where she previously taught several seminars. She has presented multiple times, online and live, at the prestigious TCM-Kongress in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, GERMANY, the Pacific Symposium, and the Canadian Oriental Medicine Symposium (COMS) in Vancouver, BC, CANADA. She has recorded several online seminars, the most recent on Constitutional Facial Acupuncture: The New Protocols for Complemedis AG (Switzerland), webinars on scar therapy, facial acupuncture and Vibrational Acupuncture for Healthy Seminars (CANADA), for Lhasa OMS, and several others for the former Acupuncture Professional (AUSTRALIA). She and MichelAngelo have a number of webinars available on her YouTube channel, including a new one on “The Depression Suppression”, on the merits of facial acupuncture vs. Botox.
She contributed a column on facial acupuncture for 9 years to Acupuncture Today magazine, and has also written for the CA Journal of Oriental Medicine (CJOM) and Oriental Medicine Journal. Her treatment protocols have been featured or highlighted in interviews in Oriental Medicine Journal, Qi Magazine, Alternative Medicine, Acu (UK), American Spa, Luxury Spa Finder, Les Nouvelles Esthetique (Canada), The Lantern (Australia), Naturheilpraxis (Germany), Huang Ti (Netherlands), Spa Asia (Singapore), Yin Yang (Switzerland).
Ms. Wakefield was invited to custom design a Diamond Acupuncture Facial™ in conjunction with the Academy Awards; subsequently, she appeared nationally on Fit TV (Discovery Channel). She maintains a private practice on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, in New York City.
